The Next Big Thing: Autonomous Cars

Ready or not; here the future comes.

For many years, people have thought up the idea of self-driving cars. In movies, TV shows, and peoples’ imagination, they always seemed to be too futuristic to actually come about. However, vehicle manufacturers are now predicting that autonomous cars will be coming in the near future; about 5 years.

Both Google and Tesla have been very open about the production of their autonomous vehicles, and state that it won’t be long until their self-driving cars are being tested on the road. Other car manufacturers that have autonomous cars on the road include Audi, Toyota, and Ford. It is rumored that almost all other car manufacturers are also toying around with the idea and testing them out on the roads as well.

Apple has also recently released a statement claiming they are looking to give Tesla “a run for its money”. This could potentially mean that Apple is looking to get into the business of autonomous vehicles. Many believe there’s no way Apple is developing a car, but instead is looking to partner with a car manufacturer and have a complete Apple operating system within the autonomous vehicle itself, being completely integrated with all of the drivers Apple products.

Many consumers say that they would be thrilled at the idea of an iCar. Though, it is most likely that Tesla and Apple are teaming up to create something unstoppable.

Though the idea of autonomous cars is exciting, it also brings along many concerns:

  • Who is to blame for autonomous car crashes?
  • What if the car malfunctions?
  • How do you keep drivers from losing their attention?
  • Will people start relying even more heavily on car-sharing services? Uber is said to have their own autonomous car plans in the making, and this could potentially take away business from car manufacturers as well as about 10 million jobs.

All of these questions will take the release of autonomous cars to be answered, as no one can actually predict what will happen by simple test drives. It must become the main source of driving before true answers come about.

Would you buy a self-driving car or would it ruin the fun of driving for you?
